Powder-Puff Flag Football

Laurence Manning’s High School Student Council presented SwampBowl IV on Saturday night in LMA’s stadium.  The Freshman defeated the Sophomores in the first game and the Seniors defeated the Juniors in the second game, setting up the Championship.  After regulation the Seniors and Freshman were tied and each scored in their first possession in overtime. However, the Freshmen were unable to convert on their 2 point conversion and the Seniors were victorious!  Hats off to the freshman class for a solid and well-played series of games.  They will certainly continue to challenge for the championships for next three years.

Important Plan 529 Tax Opportunities

As all of you know, re-enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year will begin in mid-February.  I wanted to make sure that all of the Laurence Manning family was aware of a change in the federal tax law that may beneficial to independent school parents.

The new Tax Cut and Jobs Act that was just passed by the U.S. Congress allows families to tap a 529 plan to cover up to $10,000 in private elementary and high school expenses each year.   Each state has specific regulations related to these tax-advantaged savings plans.  In South Carolina, this could mean up to a 7% savings when filing your state tax return.

Therefore, I would suggest that you investigate if this significant change to the 529 plan may be of benefit to you.  For more information, please contact your personal tax consultant.

God Bless,

Dr. Spencer Jordan
